VITA Institute for the Arts
Lead by nationally and internationally known artists Don Eugene Seastrum, Boris Shoshensky, and Phil Ward the VITA Institute for the Arts will present a series of workshops in Florence and the Tuscan region of Italy in May, 2012.  These workshops offer self-motivated painters and photographers, who would like to use Italy as their palette, a highly individualized program of study as part of a small, yet dynamic learning community.

The VITA Institute for the Arts workshops are designed to introduce participants to the rich artistic culture and heritage of Italy, and how those traditions can be emulated and applied to contemporary two dimensional composition concepts providing possible directions for the future.

The workshops will encourage each member to investigate her or his own vision of the world. A goal of the workshops will be to teach techniques and principles that will build towards a ‘novum est’  (something new) unrestricted, but informed, by the past . The workshops will cover a variety of media including, but not limited to, watercolor, oil, acrylic, and photography. The workshops will also address the nature and essence of works of art including the aspects of process, product and response.

Committed to the idea of authenticity of place, being there, the workshops offer an opportunity to develop painting and photographic skills with purposeful inquiry and creative expression in the home of the Renaissance, Michelangelo, da Vinci, and the writers Dante and Machiavelli.

Developed against an Italian backdrop, the workshops will examine compositional questions working from urban Florentine and rural Tuscan landscapes, as well as the art of  some of the greatest Italian masters, works that can enlighten and inspire contemporary artists.  A majority of the work will be done on site in and around Florence, as well as at the galleries, museums, churches, basilicas, and cathedrals of Florence, Siena and San Gimignano.  In addition studio time at Santa Reparata International School of Art will be used for the preparation of on-site assignments, demonstration of techniques, as well as individual and group critiques.

One of the principle goals of the VITA Institute for the Arts is to promote international understanding and cooperation, through education and direct contact, between the peoples of the United States and Italy. This understanding is facilitated by having the Institute’s participants live, work and interact with the citizens of Florence. Experiencing in a first hand fashion the populace, art and culture of this historic city.

If you are looking for an opportunity for artistic growth and personal development within the framework of a shared experience, as well as the chance to engage with another culture and different people both American and Italian please contact us at: Info@VitaInstitute.org
